Passengers love Lyft for the safe and friendly drivers. Drivers love Lyft for the sense of community and camaraderie. What's the glue that holds all of this together? Mentors. In honor of Mentor Appreciation Week, we're highlighting some top drivers who go above and beyond helping newbies find the magic behind the mustache. First up is Marie from Sacramento, seen here giving fellow driver Marwan a ride (fun fact: speaking of Mentors, our own Director of Community has Marwan as a mentee! #SmallWorldMoment).
Marie has earned not only the affection of local passengers — she "carries chilled water AND made sure we were safely buckled in because we were her 'precious cargo," one writes — but the respect of her driver community for the helping hand she lends in the Lounge and on the road.
Recently, she organized an informational meet-and-greet at a local Starbucks. New drivers got to know their fellow fans of the ’stache while getting questions answers from seasoned veterans, who came eager to share the tricks of the trade.
She even left some time at the end to create posters in support of sister city Seattle — and in true Lyft style, finished off the event with a group Lyftstagram.
The meet-and-greet event at Starbucks was my very first Lyft event. Marie was the first person I saw and she welcomed me with a warm smile and a fistbump. Then she gave me a marker and asked me if I wanted to sign a poster for our drivers in Seattle. This event showed me that Mentors like Marie were representing Lyft's positive philosophy, and that they truly care about the community. — Abel, new Sacramento driver.
Props to Marie for being such a positive force in our community, and teaching new drivers what it means to drive with us. Tune in tomorrow to meet another Mentor who's helping D.C. drivers fight for their right to share the ride!
