1. $40,000,000 in Tips
Great drivers deserve tips. Collectively, you’ve earned more than $40,000,000 from delighted passengers this year.
2. $25,000,000 in Power Driver Bonuses
We’ve also given back over $25,000,000 directly to drivers through the Power Driver Bonus, which launched in August 2014 as a temporary program. It’s lasted 16 months and will continue into next year as well.
3. First National Marketing Campaign
Our new marketing team, which grew to include VPs from Nike and Facebook, hit the ground running in January to make sure Lyft is top of mind nationwide. Since then, you’ve seen us everywhere from Times Square to NBA scoreboards, bus stops to Justin Bieber’s Twitter, on the Charlie Rose Show and beyond.
4. Starbucks Partnership: “Lyft is the company for us”
We were just as excited as drivers to see that quote from Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz in the New York Times announcing our partnership in July. Even more exciting: Gold Status for every driver and more from Lyft + Starbucks in the months and years to come.
More than 20% of Lyft rides begin and end at mass transit stops. We broke new ground partnering with local transit agencies this year, and launched a cheeky campaign to capture the attention of commuters.
6. New COO and General Managers
The arrival of COO Rex Tibbens from Amazon in April signalled great news for local support. We now have general managers in nearly all major Lyft cities, who are building out their own teams and offices on the ground.
7. New Support Center in Nashville
Our new Head of Customer Care, Mary Winfield, brought us a brand-new support center in Nashville to speed up response times to your Help Center questions. (We also added support on Twitter from @AskLyft.)
8. Graduating to the Glowstache
The giant Carstache put Lyft on the map, but it proved to be hard to shave and clean (especially on snow days). Creative Director Jesse McMillin, who came to us last year from Virgin America, helped us kick off the year with a fresh new icon: the Glowstache.
9. Accelerate Driver Rewards Launch
In its first year, our driver rewards program added Allstate roadside assistance, $1 retirement plans from Honest Dollar, Verizon discounts, and more. Expect to see new rewards from Accelerate in 2016, including local perks.
10. 52 New Golden Fistbump Winners
Just hours after this year’s landmark Supreme Court ruling, Dallas passenger Rodrigo requested a ride to go celebrate with friends — and he made a new one in his driver Austin, who offered a warm welcome and some great conversation.
Being a Golden Fistbump Winner isn't about pricey gifts, or newsworthy stunts. It's all about being there for your passenger and knowing the four little things that make a great ride.
11. Expanding Lyft Line
We launched Lyft Line in six new cities this year: D.C., New York, Chicago, Austin, and Boston.
12. Hearing #WhyILyft
13. Return of Passenger Referral Bonuses
Cash bonuses for referring new passengers made a comeback, and we sweetened the deal for the holidays by doubling their value to $20 through the end of the year.
14. Celebrating 10,000-Rides Milestones
A lot of you have been with us from the beginning, and your excitement for giving great rides never ceases to amaze us. Following in Stephen’s footsteps, this year we celebrated many more drivers who hit the 10,000-ride mark.
We broke several Lyft ride records on Halloween weekend. Earnings were high for drivers, and passengers were delighted by great ETAs and your #ZombieMode surprises. Win-win-win.
16. Express Pay
The feats of Lyft Engineering in 2015 could be their own Top 25 list — and for drivers, Express Pay would be at the top. The first-of-its-kind feature brings the same flexibility and control you have in your car to your finances, because that’s what we’re all about.
17. Driver Stats
You asked for a way to see your earnings in real-time, and we delivered. Driver Stats gives you easy access to track your progress toward the Power Driver Bonus and the Glowstache, and we’re excited to add more cards to the lineup next year.
18. Unlocking Airports
We officially partnered with 30 new airports in 2015 — including LAX and O’Hare, two of the largest in the world, which both welcomed Lyft before anyone else ;) That’s a huge testament to drivers like you, and to the efforts of Bakari “Mr. Airports” Brock.
19. Expanding Our Footprint in the U.S. — and Beyond
This year we welcomed Portland, Reno, Philadelphia, and Las Vegas to the Lyft family, and signed international partnerships with local market leaders GrabTaxi, Didi Kuaidi, and Ola to cover 50% of the globe. We also brought Lyft back to San Antonio after making big progress with local regulators (shout-out to Kristin Sverchek, Lyft’s longtime General Counsel who topped the list of 2015 Women Leaders in Tech Law).
20. Zillions of Items Returned, and No Shortage of Stories
Back in August, Miami driver David drove two hours to reunite a passenger with her phone. What David didn’t realize was the phone’s sentimental value: It stored irreplaceable photos and voicemails from the passenger’s father, who had recently passed away.
21. Austin’s AIDS Walk and More Good Vibes
This fall, Austin Lyft drivers organized an inspiring group to dedicate their time and money to a good cause, raising $4,000 for Austin’s AIDS walk. Unsurprisingly, your community service didn’t stop there, and this year included #MoreGoodDays, #RidestoSuccess, and free rides for Veterans.
22. Erin Throws the First Pitch
Loyal Giants fan and Lyft driver Erin Kennedy, an avid baseball player herself, had her #LyftPitch dream come true right before her 50th birthday. Erin’s family was watching from the first row when she threw the first pitch at our Lyft-sponsored Giants game — you know, the one where we covered the stadium in pink fur.
23. Shell Fuel Savings
Every driver can now save on fuel at participating Shell stations, and a Drive More, Earn More program is being tested in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco.
24. #BieberMode, #ZombieMode, #MagicMode, and More
Our Creative team continued to make headlines this year with apocalypse-worthy zombies, surprise deliveries from Justin Bieber, 1985 DeLoreans, some very well-tuned magic, and even a few celebrity drivers.
25. Countless Moments of Delight
We’ve teamed up with some big partners this year, but we still know the magic of Lyft is in those small moments of delight you bring passengers every day — from MomLyft dropping off lunch for a passenger to Hinton saving a kitten on the freeway, and everything in between.
