Yesterday’s headlines were impossible to miss: Lyft announced an additional $1 billion investment, with $500 million from General Motors, taking a major step forward in our mission to bring the world safer and more affordable transportation.
Together with GM, we’ll continue shaping the future of transportation for years to come — and in the months ahead help drivers like you get access to affordable rentals. Learn more from the New York Times.
To kick off our most joyful December yet, you helped us surprise passengers with "Gift Roulette." And just in time for holiday travel, Lyft was the first ride-sharing app approved to drive at LAX. Airport rides are often longer, which means more earnings for you, all while reducing traffic congestion and offering passengers a safe, easy way to get to and from their flights.
We also partnered with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube to promote a New Year's Eve selfie challenge and their newest movie, Ride Along 2.
New Faces Here, and Abroad
We're thrilled to welcome former FourSquare COO Evan Cohen as our new Director of East Coast operations. He explained to TechCrunch:
Lyft brings something playful and delightful to the experience of on demand ride sharing, which is why they’ve had such strong momentum. The market for consumer transportation services is colossal and incredibly dynamic, and I’m honored to be a part of it with Lyft.
Last month, cofounder John Zimmer was proud to announce our newest partnership with Ola (a ride-hailing company in India), and GrabTaxi (who operates in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia).
In Chicago, Lyft Line launched in early in December. We also added a "driver destination" feature, allowing you to set your destination when you're headed home or running errands to make your daily routes even more convenient — and lucrative.
We’re making waves in Vegas, where we’re “teaming with concert promoter AEG Live as its Preferred Transportation Network, meaning Lyft will have marketing support and a presence at events at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Joint and the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and opportunities to woo new passengers with special offers and prizes tied to ride receipts (think seat upgrades, backstage tours and artist meet-and-greets).”
