Lyft’s greatest strength is the diversity of our community. Together, we represent a movement of people from all walks of life — people who might never have otherwise met, but who’ve come to rely on each other. We’re inspired by stories of drivers like Ziendha that show the power of embracing our differences:
I got in the car and we connected immediately. She said “If I looked like you, like had your hair and your freckles, I would wake up every morning and say look out world here I am.” [...] In our short ride we continued our conversation deep into the vortexes of body image and being self conscious. — Jessica, Lyft Chicago passenger
Like many of you, we were concerned by the findings of a recent study about discrimination in our industry, which reminded us that we still have work to do for everyone to embrace diversity. While the data leaves many questions unanswered, it does bring to light the broader issue of discrimination people face in their daily lives, so we wanted to reopen the dialogue around how we help fight it.
Our Policy, and How You Can Help
Lyft’s stance on this issue is core to who we are, and non-negotiable. It’s what you agreed to before you started driving with us: Discrimination of any kind is not allowed on our platform, and can result in deactivation. Read our official policy in the Help Center.
We’ve heard from many of you this week asking how to help make sure our policy is followed by everyone. In the months ahead, we’ll share what we’re doing to get the message out. To get us started, here’s what you can do to help:
- Start talking. Do you have a personal story about how you’ve had a positive or negative experience on this topic, or an interest in leading the conversation in your city? Let us know at email@example.com.
- Report violations of Lyft’s anti-discrimination policy. If you hear of this behavior from another driver, or experience it yourself, call our Critical Response Line.
- Create a safe space for passengers. Topics like race and gender might come up on a ride, and we encourage you to address them with sensitivity. Learn how.
As the face of Lyft in your city, you play a big part in making sure our community stays welcoming to everyone. Thanks for doing your part to fight discrimination. We look forward to continuing the conversation.
