We’ve heard from many of you that it’s much easier to master the pickup when you feel more confident about calling and texting passengers. Starting today, drivers in select cities will be eligible for free English language learning resources.
Through partnerships with Duolingo, the most popular language-learning platform, and the National Immigration Forum, one of the nation’s premier immigration policy organizations, we’re offering free app-based or in-person courses, plus an option to take an English proficiency test to prove your skills to universities and future employers.
Eligible drivers will get an email and an app notification with details about how to sign up. While we’re starting in just six cities, we hope to roll out these opportunities across all cities later this year. This new program is part of Driver Services, an ambitious initiative we launched this year to help you save money and make driving easier.
Two ways to learn
Through the Duolingo app
Drivers who want to learn through an app will get free access to Duolingo Plus for three months of ad-free learning. At any time, you’ll have the option to take an online English proficiency test for free. The Duolingo English Test is recognized by over 500 universities and institutions as proof of English proficiency, and you can add it to your résumé to show your skills to future employers. The whole package typically costs $80, but it’s completely free for eligible Lyft drivers.
In-person with the National Immigration Forum
Drivers who prefer to learn in-person have the option to take a free 6-week course provided by the National Immigration Forum. 86% of students who have completed this course have seen improvements in their interactions with customers.
