The Lyft community is filled with inspiring moms driving toward their goals, like Paloma, who saved a passenger's life during the mass shooting in Las Vegas last October. To honor her act of heroism, we covered an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris so Paloma could achieve one of her dreams: showing her kids the city’s art.
This Mother's Day, we're celebrating a few more heroic driver moms by covering the cost of their kids' summer activities. Check out Paloma's story here, and stay tuned next week to read about more inspiring moms in our driver community.
Paloma recently visited our San Francisco office and shared the highlights from her trip to Paris with her kids. Check out some photos below, including Paloma's emotional reunion with Topher, Lyft's Head of Production, who helped surprise Paloma with the trip to Paris. And keep reading to hear Paloma's story.
What motivates you to drive with Lyft? What are your goals?
Providing a better future for my kids is my biggest motivation to drive with Lyft. My goals are to develop a better financial situation while I still have the time needed to be with my three kids. All of these are possible thanks to Lyft!
How has Lyft empowered you to reach your goals?
Lyft has done so much for our family. I am driving to a better future while still being at home as needed for my kids. My oldest daughter, Mariana, is a full-time college student, Marissa is in High School, and David is in Elementary School. Mariana is a very busy girl. School, volunteering for different causes, and a part time job means not much free time in her schedule — and I do love to spend some of that time with her. David and Marissa are both Autistic so they need quality time as well as time to take care of special needs. At the same time, I have the opportunity to produce small art events in Las Vegas.
Tell us about your best ride.
So many special rides. From wedding proposals to drive-thru weddings, emotional break-ups and one specific ride in which I was taking a passenger to safety after getting out of a situation of domestic violence. So many stories, some of them very emotional. The night of October 1st I will never forget, I was able to help several people into safety before taking Billy and Kimberly King to the hospital and him surviving after being shot at that traffic event has been a life changing experience.
What do you say to people who call you a hero for the actions you took during the Vegas attacks?
I am not a hero. I was blessed with the opportunity to be able to help who was in need of help. God guided me to what I was supposed to do, that's all.
Tell us about Paris. Did your kids enjoy the trip? How was the food?
The trip to Paris was AMAZING!!! Seeing the Eiffel Tower at night and visiting the Chateau du Versailles was mesmerizing, having the opportunity to visit The Louvre and see the Mona Lisa and so much art was a dream come true! The food, OMG ... I lost count of all the times we ate escargot. The food is simply delicious!
What is your philosophy on motherhood?
My life is my kids. They are the engine that keeps me going. They are like my nose: right in front of me every step of the way!
