From giving rides for seniors to delivering food to the homeless, you guys have set the bar for what it means to help your community since the earliest days of Lyft. We’re proud to support your volunteerism with the Lyft for Good program, and share the best of these stories biweekly on the Hub. After hosting a driver meetup, Denver driver Brittany was inspired to donate the leftover food to the homeless residents in her community. And then she started thinking of more ways she could help the hungry.
Freshly inspired to give back to her community, Brittany teamed up with fellow driver Susan, and together they bagged lunches to be delivered to the homeless. They packed about 80 Ziploc lunches and delivered them all. This inspired Brittany to give out lunches again this month — and soon, she's hoping to start a monthly volunteer initiative.
For Brittany, the most rewarding part of her efforts has been seeing the reactions from those she surprises. Most of the people she serves don’t know when or where their next meal will come from, so being able to fill that void and offer some assurance has been extremely gratifying for her.
“Whether it's filling and giving out bags, or impacting someone with a smile, random acts of kindness are important for making people happy and keeping them engaged with their communities,” Brittany says.
Brittany always enjoyed giving back to others, even before packing lunches. Last spring, she filled her car with care packages holding Kleenex, washcloths, and McDonald’s gift certificates and gave them to those in need.
This kindhearted driver exemplifies our community's helping spirit, proving that it extends far beyond the car. We look forward to watching her initiative grow!
