Lyft for Good: Helping the Homeless with OneUmbrella Fest

Being a force for good in your community takes effort, energy, and commitment. Recently, Washington D.C. driver Carlos gathered a group of Lyft drivers to give back.

As Chief Diversity Officer for OneUmbrella Foundation, an organization that focuses on the needs of the homeless in the Washington metropolitan area, he knew he could count on his fellow drivers to help with the sixth-annual OneUmbrella Fest.

D.C. Lyft Drivers volunteered together to help the homeless.

At this event, thousands of pounds of food and clothing for the homeless were distributed by volunteers from all over the world — from diplomats to au pairs, to contractors, and to Lyft drivers.

Drivers passed out meals, gave out donated clothes, and helped with haircuts.

Carlos noted, “The best part of all this is the look of happiness that we give lots of these people who live on the streets. We have a DJ who plays some old town funk, and between Marvin Gaye and some Chuck Brown, everyone gets down to music. We brighten up someone’s day, and that's all what it's about.”

Thank you to all the drivers who donated their time and energy — Luis Argueta, Andrei Cretu, John Stephenson, Robert Wright III, Darryl Smith, and Brieski Lewis. Many people braved the rain and showed their dedication to our community. Thank you to everyone!
