Here’s a foolproof recipe for sugar cookie success:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened but cool
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon whole milk
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. Cream the butter and sugar until the texture is smooth and consistent. Add the egg, and mix until fully incorporated. Add the dry ingredients, and mix until the flour is just incorporated. Add the milk, and mix until smooth. Chill the dough for 30 minutes. Then roll to ¼” thickness, and cut into desired shapes. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 minutes.
For the icing:
- 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 3 egg whites
Mix until smooth, and add more whites or sugar for desired thickness. Use your favorite food coloring to tint the icing to match your concept.
Stay sweet out there!
