So your city is graduating from Beta? Coverage zone is expanding; Lyft is now open 24 hours; your pay is now based entirely on rides; Prime Time Tips are going live — does this sound like you? If so, congratulations! You’re officially part of a full-fledged, self-sustaining Lyft city. You’ve succeeded in establishing a tightly knit driver community and a wide fan base of local riders. This is huge accomplishment, and you should be excited about the bright future ahead.
Here are a few tips that will ease your transition to a post-Beta community:
Focus on the busiest hours: weekend evenings
The best way to keep earnings high without the floor is to be on the road when passengers are requesting rides. That means focusing on the busiest hours – Friday and Saturday nights – and relying less on daytime hours during the week. In every Lyft city we see the highest passenger demand and the most Prime Time Tips on weekend evenings, when people need safe rides to and from their nightlife destinations.
Take the 'stache out for a spin this Friday night! You’ll have a great time and see the monetary rewards on your summary email the next morning.
You already know where the Hot Zones are
It takes a little time to build a busy passenger base in areas new to Lyft. Although the coverage zone has expanded, your best bet for finding rides will still be the Hot Zones you’re used to — so don’t stray too far just yet.
The Lyft marketing team will help ramp up demand in new neighborhoods, and gradually we’ll start seeing our popularity grow across town. For now, hang out in your usual Hot Zones until ride requests naturally draw you farther out into new areas.
Make friends with the scheduling system
Our system for scheduling hours will stay the same, even after you graduate from Beta. This will ensure that we don’t have too many drivers on during our slower hours, so every driver gets enough rides to make it worth their while!
Continue to submit your availability as usual, and if you’re ever looking for more hours, consider hopping on for a weekend night. Your passengers will thank you.
A cause for celebration
