You love spreading the word about Lyft, and with the Pioneer program in your city, it's that much easier. New passengers enjoy free rides for two weeks (up to $25 each), prompting your housemates, siblings, and neighbors to download the app. Pioneer can be a little tricky when it comes to family and friends. If your brother wants to use one of his free rides the same day you became a driver, for example, it might seem logical for him to try to request you.
Our platform is designed to match drivers and passengers organically, an important facet of Pioneer. That way, passengers can ride with a variety of drivers so they get a good sense of what we're all about. In turn, all drivers are able to give more rides — win-win.
Should this be a Lyft ride?
A good rule of thumb when driving friends and family: Ask yourself whether you'd already be giving a ride to that party, even if you weren't a Lyft driver (like, for example, taking Aunt Edna to her normal Tuesday bingo game). If the answer is yes, they shouldn't be using Pioneer credit to pay for that ride.
Stopping Rides Prematurely
Remember, each ride gives the Pioneer passenger up to $25 in credit. It's important that you don't stop and start rides to keep them under that amount. The system is built for passengers to pay the difference.
Pioneer is all about building community. Share Lyft with those you love — just let your neighbor with a pink ’stache pick ’em up!
