You see someone standing alone on the side of a deserted street, arm outstretched to hail you. There’s no taxi in sight, and you aren’t currently matched with a passenger.
What should you do?
A. Pull over and offer them a Lyft ride.
B. Only pick them up after they request a ride from you through the Lyft app.
The correct answer is B. Not only do street hails threaten your own safety, they can also get you in trouble with the law: Officials have started cracking down on unauthorized pickups.
If a stranger approaches you and asks for a ride, you should politely decline, but can offer to show them how to download the app. Making things official through the Lyft app will ensure your rides are cashless and recorded in our system in case you need our support.
